CRETACEOUS MISSISSIPPI

Stratodus apicalis (1872) was a giant dercetid; a deep water, eel-like fish. They grew to be around 2 1/2 feet long (.76 m). Their jaws held tiny, villiform (brush-like) teeth. As rare as finding Stratodus fossils may be in Northeast MS, finding the jaw with the tiny, villiform teeth intact, is even rarer!
